Our desk-top computer applications are designed to allow you the freedom to assess clients on-screen, produce reports and get down to what you do best with the minimum time spent writing laborous reports.

The Career Direction Finder, originally a small self report system built for a client organisation, is an evaluation system and a reporter that uses the Enneagram and Holland systems of personal analysis to arrive at a list of possible occupations that would be ideal for the respondent. In addition, it is capable of testing English language proficiency and arithmetic competence.

It is not meant to replace conventional aptitude or personality testing but, by virtue of the short length of the assessment, provides adequate results with sufficient accuracy to effectively councel a person in terms of prospective careers and study direction.

The reports are easy to read and informative yet, short enough not to create boredom in a young respondent. The test items in the system are geared towards people of 17 and older and an English language upbringing will be a great advantage.

The system may be downloaded from the link at the bottom of this page and will install a three day trial license on a machine that has not previously had it installed. To assist you with evaluating the system, links to samples of the two reports which it produces are also provided. An order form which contains the pricing details is also available for download and may be completed and returned to our offices by email or fax.

THEORETICAL BASIS

The foundation of this system lies in two temperament-based theories which purport to accurately describe humans in relatively simple terms.

The Enneagram of Personality has an obscure history but is rapidly assuming a place in the world of respectable personality assessment. It describes nine discrete world views or "lenses" through which people interpret the world and events in the world. There are many on-line articles available on the Enneagram and perhaps the most informative gives a history of the schema.

While the model apparently lends itself well to application in making career decisions, there is little actual work to date establishing this link. The link, however, is quite obvious to anyone who has studied the enneagram in any depth. This article explains the commonly understood relationship between this system and career factors and, more pertently, suggests that there is a predictive relationship between specific occupational classes and an individual's Enneagram profile.

The Holland Model of Occupational Environments is far more established in career counselling and describes six factors that define temperamental aspects relating individuals to specific classes of occupation. The great strength of this model lies in the ability to describe occupations in terms of the codes and directly match assessments performed on individuals to these codes thus easily linking a person to a number of actual occupations. »

Considering the number of students who discover they are on the wrong track career-wise, this application can save considerable heartache by scienfically predicting the ideal occupational class for an individual and providing them with a list of possible jobs.

Holland codes have been used for years and lists of occupations with their Holland codes assigned are readily available. In fact, we have used two such lists in the system to derive a list of possible careers for the assessed individual. These lists are included in both of the reports which the system produces.

Judging by the diverse applications of John Holland's model and the number of instruments that set out to measure it, it would have to be accepted that it has more than a grain of accuracy. There are many articles and papers which have been produced on the model and it seems robust.

As mentioned, in addition to the temperamental and interest aspects, the system includes an aptitude assesment set in English which includes both a verbal and non-verbal section.

Specifically, this section contains:
